When the pandemic hit and the world didn’t know what was going on I found myself disconnected from everything, the uncertainty in those early days was very paralyzing. Cortés wanted a life of action, and was fascinated by the tales of gold and riches in the New World. When some stability was found I heard that someone started a YPR Chapter in Cortez and I was so happy to hear that one was established! I was fortunate to be able to attend some in person meetings and see it begin to grow. Through a lot of self-analysis and frequent visits to local mental health facilities it took some time to have the feeling of getting on track with the world. Throughout a very weird transitional period of my life my recovery was put on the back burner for a while. I tried to start a chapter in Cortez but at the time my world shifted and it didn’t workout at the time. Once those feelings started to feel unmanageable, I reached out to a close friend and she put me into contact with Candice Seay! We had a conversation about YPR and hearing her story and how she wanted to take action and make a difference definitely inspired me to want to support my community. A lot of shame still held me down and kept me away from participating in my own life. Over time those anxieties began to fade but I felt like I had to hide it from the world. She didn’t dare avert her gaze, not wanting to miss the powdery substance she has longed for in the past weeks. Snow kept falling from the sky, covering trees, nearby cars and the roof of nearby houses. Last Christmas, I gave you my heart, but the very next day, you gave it away Tom, not wanting to interrupt, placed his hand on top of your knee. Tears were welling up in your eyes, and you looked up to the sky in hopes that it would stop the tears from producing. And then my boss yelled at me for being late, and I almost burst into tears right in front of him.” “I don’t even want to think about what it could be. “And then when I got to work, the annoying coworker from upstairs told me that I had a stain on my pants, and at first I didn’t believe him, you know? But then sure as shit, there was a blue stain on the back of my pants, and I have no idea where it came from.” You sighed. “I was late to work because I narrowly missed the tube, and then ended up getting off on the wrong stop, so I had to run 10 blocks to my job.” Your response was hurried, and you had to inhale a sharp breath before continuing. He was silent, but looked at you with empathetic eyes. You felt the pillow being removed from your face, and watched Tom place it to the side of you. “This may have been the worst day of my life.” Your face was still pressed to the pillow, making your response muffled. His question needed no response when all you could do was grab a pillow, hold it to your face and scream into it. He paid close attention to the sound of your feet shuffling across the floor, and noted when he heard you flop onto the couch. Tom had asked when he heard you come in through the door, but before he could finish his sentence, he heard a loud thud from your bag hitting the hardwood floor, followed by a long sigh. Tom instinctively kissed you back before he could process what was happening. You smiled in return before wrapping an arm around him to pull him into a kiss. “Text me when you get home safe.” You said as you walked Tom to your door. You both managed to catch yourselves just in time until the end of the night. Tom felt the same way and often found himself about to go in for a kiss before he remembered he wasn’t actually your boyfriend. It was slightly confusing to spend 8 months acting as if you were in a relationship only for it to suddenly end one day. This was your first time seeing each other since wrapping and there were multiple times throughout the night where you had to catch yourself before you did something that you used to do when you played his wife. You had spent the last 8 months acting along side Tom as his crush, then girlfriend, and then wife. However, Böhm executes The Angel and quickly departs to his plane, intending to take off and personally carry out the attack on Eisenhower's ship. When he explains all of Fairburnes' actions have been in vain, and that he will personally will kill Eisenhower, the Angel causes a distraction to allow Fairburne to escape. Fairburne also gathers any important documents he can find.Īs he attempts to call in a bombing raid on the facility, Fairburne gets held by Dorfmann, who appears with a captured Angel, revealing himself to be Böhm. Fairburne after getting passage to Allagra by Dinelli (Kingpin of the Sicilian Mafia) infiltrates the base, disabling any missiles he finds, and sabotages anything vital to ensure nothing can be salvaged. Gathered intelligence allows the OSS to discover Böhm is aware of Operation Avalanche (the Allied plan to invade mainland Italy) and has the constructed missiles sent to his fortress at Allagra, intends to inflict enough damage on the fleet to prevent the invasion of Italy from being a success and attempting to kill General Dwight Eisenhower, supreme commander of the Allied forces. However Fairburne after killing Rothbauer, had also infiltrated his bunker, and stole the secret contents in the safe. Fairburne departs to Giovi Fiorini and eliminates Rothbauer, but in the ensuing battle the results in the Partisans being massacred, and the Angel presumed dead. Fairburne and Weaver use the opportunity to find Böhm's confidant Major Klaus Rothbauer, who is in Giovi Fiorini. When Fairburne interrogates Kessler alone, he learns that he is dying, and as a result is of no use to the Nazis or the Allies, and the information he gave to the Angel was a lie, in order to lure the Partisans into a trap. On interrogation, Kessler tells the Angel, that her father is still alive, prompting the Partisans to depart to launch a full assault the town of Giovi Fiorini. Fairburne infiltrates the facility to kidnap Kessler and steal his research notes, along with sabotaging the facilities vital components. However when an OSS informant, Major Hans Dorfmann, reveals that Kessler is at the Maggazeno Facility where the missiles are being assembled. Distrustful of the Mafia's intentions, the Partisans are reluctant to maintain the alliance. Upon learning the Sicilian Mafia were helping to disrupt operations at the dockyard to slow down the shipment of the weapon parts, Fairburne meets with Kingpin Salavatore Dinelli who agrees to provide additional assistance after eliminating Piero Capo, leader of the local Black Brigade. Fairburne sabotages the search lights, and the anti-aircraft guns and calls in a bombing raid to destroy the dockyard. After blowing up the viaduct and destroying the gun, Fairburne is sent to investigate a dockyard, and learns that the Nazis are using the dockyard to ship the weapon's guidance system. Distrustful of the OSS who allowed her Father to be kidnapped by the Nazis, the Angel enlists Fairburne to destroy a railway gun at Regelino Viaduct in order to prove himself and convince the group to join forces. Fairburne is sent to the village of Bitanti to find Sofia "Angel" Di Rocco, leader of the local Partisan resistance group, by OSS agent Jack Weaver. After eliminating Schmidt, Fairburne searches his corpse to find that the missiles are being made by the Nazi scientist Andreas Kessler, who is under the the protection of the brutal Nazi General Heinz Böhm, a high ranking Nazi general, whose reputation is well known, but the Allies have no idea what he looks like. In addition to dynamic, remote or local port forwarding, it also supports X11 forwarding, and IPV6 protocol and authentication via public-keys. Using PuTTY, you can take control via SSH encryption key along with the protocol version, while providing SFTP and SCP clients access through the command-line. Additionally, it supports a wide range of encryption algorithms, such as DES, 3DES, Blowfish, AES and Arcfour. PuTTY stores the host computer’s settings to facilitate accurate yet fast switches among machines. Several IT professionals need to get remote access to computers on a daily basis. Once you’ve successfully set up the connection, you can use the resources of a remote computer in a matter of seconds. The Connection area in PuTTY offers customization options for Internet Protocol version, Terminal and Login details, Proxy type, Low-level TCP connections, Environment variables and several other protocol-specific adjustments. Users can easily set alarms, keyboard actions, and use advanced features to tweak the behavior, colors and appearance of the window. The comprehensive features available make PuTTY one of the most popular terminal applications. The terminal section refers to line discipline, remote-controlled printing and several general settings. Users can choose from several connection types, such as telnet, raw, rlogin, serial and SSH, to set logging options for a specific session. It allows you to manage and customize connections and sessions alongside the window and the terminal. Once you set up PuTTY, the clean and simple interface reveals a comprehensive configuration pane. To the rear of the building (next to the automotive garage) occluded from view was a small house once owned by Abe Zetooney. After construction, the coffee shop which can be seen in the picture was moved to the back of the building. Images Looking northeast from Chestnut Street (now Arlington) This photograph shows the El Cortez Hotel prior to its 1940 expansion. Today, the El Cortez operates as a residency hotel, with a variety of commercial businesses on the ground floor. The building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and the Reno Register of Historic Places in 2000. In 1972, Bill Fong, formerly of the New China Club, opened a Chinese restaurant in the property, which he ran until his death in 1982. By 1966, however, the hotel had lost its luster and had to close its doors. In 1964 the Pincolini family bought the hotel. The Trocadero was licensed for roulette, 21, and craps, and featured major performers such as Sophie Tucker, the Andrew Sisters, and Victor Borge. In its heyday, the El Cortez offered unsurpassed entertainment. The new addition, which cost $250,000 to complete, opened with a black-tie affair the evening of May 14, 1941. The expansion included the Trocadero Room, a cocktail lounge and dinner and night club decorated in an elegant Art Moderne theme. Between 19, a six-story tower designed by Monk Ferris was added, nearly doubling the number of rooms. The hotel gained its first gaming license in 1934. An upscale coffee shop and barber/beauty shop occupied the ground floor, along with a lobby furnished “in the Spanish style.” Tiled stairs from the lobby led to a women’s lounge and card room on the mezzanine, where an elegant dining room opened that September. Modern and luxurious touches, including a radio in each room, set the hotel apart. Zetoony leased the management of the hotel to the Bulasky brothers, Joseph, Solomon, and Louis. He was also one of the first architects in Nevada to specialize in steel frame construction, which he employed on the El Cortez.Īt six stories high with a full basement, the 60-room Art Deco style hotel became Reno’s tallest building upon its opening in March of 1931, just in time for passage of the new divorce law. George already had designed a number of important Nevada buildings, including the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City, while Monk had a number of buildings to his own credit. For his new hotel, he hired father and son architects George and Lehman A. In anticipation of their success, local real estate investor Abe Zetoony commissioned the construction of the El Cortez Hotel to cater to the expected influx of temporary residents.Ī native of Syria, Zetoony had arrived in Reno shortly after World War I, and for many years ran the Silk & Linen shop on East Second Street. Nicci wants to help others be their most successful selves, noting, “when we are all using our strengths, we build a strong community.Late in 1930, Nevada’s legislators pondered boosting the state’s lucrative divorce trade even further by shortening the residency requirement from three months to six short weeks. After leaving journalism, she worked in marketing and public relations, and in 2002 began her career in the nonprofit sector at the University of Denver’s Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management School. Working with CBS News, Nicci assisted in covering the 1996 memorial of Oklahoma City bombing, the 1996 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, and the second inauguration of President Bill Clinton in Washington D.C. Born and raised in small-town Enid, Oklahoma, Nicci earned her degree in mass communications from Oklahoma City University. Suzanne’s medical oncologist referred her to see a palliative care physician six months before she died. What she wanted and needed was to talk to a palliative care physician about the end stage of her disease, the situations she was likely to encounter and the decisions she (and I) would likely have to make.Īs a practical matter what we found was that it was impossible to get assigned to a palliative care physician while she was still under active treatment. In Suzanne’s case she did get an assessment by a social worker about five months before her death, but it concerned her physical needs while she remained at home, which were minimal. However, according to the Canadian Cancer Society, about 40 percent of cancer patients in the province do not receive any palliative assessment in the last year of their lives. Officially in Ontario, palliative care can begin at any point in the progress of the disease. In Suzanne’s case this would have meant roughly two and a half years before she died. The American Society of Clinical Oncology recommends that patients with advanced cancer receive palliative care soon after diagnosis. But she had not been allowed by the health system to meet with a palliative care physician who could prepare us for her final days. She had made a new will, shown me how to cook the spaghetti sauce our son Alex consumes by the litre, picked her cemetery plot and chosen the engraving for her own tombstone. Suzanne had done everything she could to prepare for her death. But we had never been allowed to meet with a palliative care physician until that hurried consultation in Emergency the previous day. Why was I so surprised? I later learned that this situation is not unusual for cancer patients in the final days. I had never imagined that in her final days, she would not be given the most rudimentary stuff of life that I would have to stand and watch that happen. The moment that Suzanne told me she had found a lump in her breast the moment it was diagnosed as cancer the moment sixteen months later we learned that it had metastasized all of these moments are indelibly etched in me with grief and shock.īut having attended every doctor’s appointment, waited outside the surgical theatre, sat through each chemotherapy session, gone to the radiation appointments, sat many times by Suzanne’s bedside in Emergency – and walked with her, travelled with her, laughed with her, swum with her and talked with her for many long hours during it all – the news that she would be cut off from food and drink came with a glance at a chart. When I asked the nurse about it, she checked the chart and said simply that the doctor had not ordered it. I immediately noticed that she was no longer being hydrated. That came in the evening of the next day, when I returned from an excursion home to feed the kids and found Suzanne had been moved to the cancer ward. The doctor told me that at this stage in the disease, it would only “feed the cancer.” When I replied that this must mean Suzanne was close to death, the doctor answered – rather implausibly, I thought – that hunger strikers often survived for many weeks.īut this wasn’t the moment of greatest shock. And yet, it was only the next morning in Emergency that she and I met for the first time with a palliative care physician – someone specifically trained to attend to the needs of the dying.īy this point, Suzanne had not eaten in a day and a half, and I asked the doctor out of Suzanne’s hearing whether they would be feeding her intravenously. It had been clear for at least six months that Suzanne, whose cancer had metastasized to her skull and was pressing on her brain, had entered the closing stage of her terminal illness. She was obviously quite thirsty and when I asked one of the Emergency physicians to start hydrating her intravenously, he quickly arranged for that to happen. By the time the ambulance got her to Emergency, she was largely immobile and had great difficulty speaking. Suzanne had collapsed at home after having prepared her breakfast but finding herself unable to eat. In the four years I accompanied my wife Suzanne as she endured the diagnoses and treatment for breast cancer, the most shocking moment came just five days before she died. The formula of both shades has a gel-like emollience that applies and blends easily, and sets completely within a few minutes. Tom Ford Beauty's iconic Shade & Illuminate duo makes enhancing your natural features completely effortless! Not only that, but cream products in general can tend to either be too stiff and difficult to blend, or so emollient that they disappear throughout the day. The number of contouring and highlighting products that have been released over the past few years can make choosing one that works for you quite daunting. I would recommend this product if you’re able to find a shade that suits your undertone as the cream formula is very easy to work with. I have oily skin do not find either product to feel heavy on the skin even when not set. Both the highlight and bronzer do not set so it remains in this creamy state unless you set it with powder. If you’re looking for a highlight that can be seen from space, this is not it as the finish is very natural. There is no base pigment to highlight and it leaves a beautiful sheen to the top of the cheek bones. I find that since the undertone is very natural on my skin, I am able to use it to bronze and contour a bit. I also will put some along the perimeter of my forehead and under the jaw as well. You will not see stripes along the sides of your cheeks with proper blending. Not to worry as the bronzer does blend out very well and creates a natural finish. I basically draw a diagonal wedge under my cheek bones and blend it out with either a Beautyblender or a synthetic brush. With application, I am able to place the bronzer on the skin using my finger. The formulation of the bronzer is that of a cream that is not too heavy and diffuses very well when blended. I would imagine that this shade would look great with warm or golden undertone skin in general. The bronzer does have a slightly golden undertone which looks great with my yellow undertone skin. My skin tone is about NC25 and the cream bronzer shade works very well. Admittedly, I do not use cream bronzers and highlights very frequently but this is always the product I reach for when I do. I have had this product in my collection for well over a year and finally hitting pan. Have a question about TOM FORD Shade and Illuminate? To emphasize the high points of the face, apply the highlighter cream with your fingertip to the top of the cheekbones, the browbone, and very lightly from the forehead down the center of the nose. Sweep one side of a cream contour brush into the darker contour cream. Shade and Illuminate brings out your natural bone structure to create the appearance of symmetry through light and shadow." - TOM FORD "In order to achieve true beauty, the most important thing is to understand your individual face architecture.
